Abstract

This qualitative multiple case study analysis highlights the efforts of leadership at two urban high schools in developing culturally relevant teaching practices for freshmen of color through the development and implementation of various artifacts. Findings highlight the need for leaders to move beyond only providing teachers time to collaborate, sense-make and build trust, and find ways for staff members to utilize external sources of knowledge and expertise. Additionally findings highlight the need for leaders to engage with teachers in the development and implementation of artifacts designed to improve their practice.
