There is an absence of research on Ugandan children’s conceptualizations of peace. This exploratory, qualitative study aims to begin to fill that gap by eliciting the ideas of 36 children in two primary schools in urban, Ugandan settings. Focus group interviews were conducted and the data were analyzed using a grounded approach. The research should inform the development of desperately-needed peace education curriculum and culture in the country. The paper results on two main categories of results: (1) children’s positive and negative conceptualizations of peace; and (2) their ideas of peace mediation measures and agents. The results will be compared and contrasted with existing literature for purposes of coming up with a locally-rooted model of peace biulding.
