This paper seeks to reflect on methodology and research done as part of a dissertation study that employs participatory action research (PAR) with four veteran urban teachers to investigate the contexts surrounding food within their urban school district. The primary research aim is to explore some of the under-examined ways in which food intersects with schooling within an urban district where the vast majority of students qualify for free and reduced lunches. The secondary aim is to employ PAR with veteran urban teachers to demonstrate the ways in which teachers within a particular urban district are marginalized and help give these teachers voice within research, showcasing their experience, dedication, community knowledge, and intellectual prowess.
