Abstract

Although economic topics are considered as increasingly important and are already implemented in school curricula, surveys (Beck 1993, Retzmann, et al. 2012, Schumann et al. 2010) show that the group of young adults display insufficient knowledge in this domain. One reason might be that teachers lack sufficient economic competence themselves and therefore being not really able to support students’ learning processes. As teachers, in turn, depend on their education, economic topics should be implemented in University curricula. Unfortunately, those reveal a rather severe lack of economics education. The project therefore trains teacher students in the domain of economics. Results show that this training has a significant impact on their economic performance and entails in higher economic attitude and economic knowledge.
