Joseph Schwab’s curricular conception of The Practical has been available to educational researchers and teachers for almost 50 years. When we look for the practice of The Practical arising out of its proclamation and presentation by Schwab, there is surprising little to go on. Nevertheless, there is a way of finding The Practical in action by examining Schwab’s own practices, the curricula that he created and taught. We can apply his Practical principles to his own practices. Such a study will not only give us working examples of The Practical, but also reveal how Schwab discovered and developed it as he articulated and applied the arts of effective curricula to his own intellectual development. 114 words
