Learning communities where the intangible components of the profession are explored provide benefits for teacher candidates and practicing teachers as well. This presentation highlights the importance of establishing partnerships between university and K-12 schools. It illustrates one program that created a learning community of pre-service and practicing teachers that focused on conversations about teaching and learning in a non-evaluative setting. This analysis uncovered the need to apprentice pre-service teachers into the collaborative nature of the educational setting before they enter the work force. The implications in this study inform all teacher education programs of the importance of providing time and space for novices and experienced teachers to reflect on teaching and learning in a risk free environment.
