School leaders in urban contexts need an effective way to examine the inequities in their schools. The purpose of this qualitative study is to introduce and posit that an Equity Analysis is a conceptual and practical tool that school leaders can use to better gauge the culture and conditions of their schools to ensure equity minded-reform is occurring. We argue that an Equity Analysis will enable school leaders to peer into school inequities in order to make strategic and more targeted reform, thereby improving the academic outcomes of their students. Moreover, school leaders must build bridges to systems and resources that enhance teaching and learning and build an institutional culture of care.
