A Methodological Quality Tool for Meta-Analyses: The Case of Educational Technology Literature

Sat, April 18, 8:15 to 9:45am, Marriott, Floor: Sixth Level, Illinois

Abstract

The objective of the current project is to develop a Methodological Quality Tool to assist in evaluating the reliability of meta-analyses in the social sciences, particularly in education. Moreover, the project aims at pilot testing the tool with the extensive number of available MAs addressing the impact of technology integration on student learning from 1985 to 2014. In its final form, the tool includes 22 items addressing different validity aspects of a meta-analysis, such as contextual, internal, external, and statistical validity. The presentation will provide an overview of the tool and the validation process with more than 50% of a total of 48 identified meta-analyses. Findings and implications will be offered, and future directions will be discussed.
