Examining Gaps and Opportunities in the High School–to–College Transition for Oregon Students

Sat, April 18, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Swissotel, Floor: Event Centre First Level, Zurich C

Abstract

This study addresses the priorities of a researcher-practitioner alliance that seeks to improve Oregon students’ college readiness and success. The study analyzes the high school to college transition from three perspectives. Using rich, statewide longitudinal data that follows students from high school into college, the study compares rural and urban postsecondary enrollment and persistence, and examines the postsecondary readiness of high school graduates who attend an Oregon community college. Then, using both qualitative and quantitative data, the study explores the impact of secondary-postsecondary partnerships that seek to expand opportunities for historically disadvantaged students to take college-level courses while in high school.
