Thu, April 16, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Hyatt, Floor: West Tower - Green Level, Crystal B

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the changing proportion of minority administrators in the Florida College System (FCS), and to address the leadership competencies that are essential for college administrators. The literature review focused on minority leaders in the higher education system and their positive effect on students, as well as leadership competencies needed at community colleges. This study utilized Friedman’s Test in discovering the longitudinal trend of average Hispanic and African American administrators’ proportion from 2002 to 2011. Linear Mixed Model was conducted to explore the correlation between the proportion of Hispanic/African American administrators and the proportion of Hispanic/African American student enrollment at the FCS member colleges from 2002 to 2011.
