The Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) proposed new admissions standards for Educator Preparation Programs, requiring mean GPAs above 3.0 and SAT scores above the 67th percentile. This research examined whether program completers from the California State University system, admitted under old criteria but who would be excluded by new requirements, were judged differently by employment supervisors. Principal ratings of teachers scoring above and below 50th and 67th percentiles on the SAT were not significantly different in 51 of 54 tests. For three significant tests, no R2 exceeded 0.3%. Correlations of principal evaluations with GPAs and SAT scores were low or negative. New CAEP criteria are not supported and will exclude potentially successful teachers especially minorities and the poor.
