Walking the Walk: Assessment and Reflective Practice in the Development of a College Teaching Certificate

Thu, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Hyatt, Floor: West Tower - Green Level, Crystal B

Abstract

Faculty are educated in specific disciplines and less likely to receive training on effective teaching and learning practices. The scholarship of teaching and learning advocates that faculty look closely at their classroom experiences to help improve their own work and to share findings with others. In this vein, we review ongoing assessment of the first three one-credit online courses to be offered in a new college teaching certificate program. The purpose of the assessment is to 1) help improve how we meet program objectives, and 2) contribute to conversations about college teaching and learning. The creation of a college teaching certificate intends to model best classroom practices and assessment of the first modules showcases links with assessment and faculty learning.
