This paper examines the nature and application of personal and family health beliefs and practices among adults living in an urban community with high concentrations of poverty. Participants in this study were participants in a community-based family health and wellness program. Through collaborative qualitative research, we examine participants’ expectations of health, wellness and nutrition, their family practices and beliefs around health, and the potential resources and barriers towards addressing disparities in health and education within their communities.
