Sharing stories of stress that focus on student behaviors mitigates the emotional work of teachers. While such co-rumination may temporarily relieve some stress, it does not provide the long- term social support for dealing with the root causes of the stress. In this study we created a mentoring relationship to aid a struggling teacher improve her relationships with students. Using a structured protocol that focused the teacher’s self-reflection on classroom relations, the two teacher involved formed a working relationship that was renewing to their classroom practice and participation in school culture.
