Despite the policy aims that have targeted their recruitment, empirical research on younger, African Americans who have chosen to enter the teaching profession is severely limited. The purpose of this poster is to present the design of a study that aims to address this gap within the literature. The poster will provide background information that may help to inform the design of contemporary studies of African American teachers including important theoretical considerations, seminal research on the successful beliefs and practices of many African American teachers, and possible methodological issues. The poster will include suggestions for future research on this topic.
