Many preservice teachers have significant gaps in their knowledge about literacy. One strategy that they often use when preparing to teach literacy is to search for digital content that will support their practice. Sixty-five preservice educators were asked about their preferred Websites for preparing for literacy instruction. Qualitative analysis of responses explored Website attributes and the qualities that made them appealing to participants. Cluster analysis of response categories divided participants between those who used a range of Websites, and those who primarily used search engines and social media Websites. Students who ranked credibility as the most appealing Website attribute demonstrated better literacy knowledge than those who valued efficiency. The paper concludes with implications for preservice educator preparation.
