The EcoMOBILE project blends classroom learning via a virtual ecosystem with outdoor field trip experiences augmented by mobile technology. Here we report on a study that uses EcoMOBILE to look at how best to support middle school students in making connections between their learning in the virtual world and their activities with observation and data collection in the real world. We compare three treatments, varying the amount and mechanism of the augmented reality materials presented to students.
