Working professionals in doctoral programs have many challenges, not the least of which is learning how to write as scholars. The purpose of this study was to describe and explain how working professional doctoral students responded to specific strategies designed to support their development as academic writers during the second year of their graduate program. Likert-scale and narrative survey results from 13 doctoral students indicated that explicit and intentional writing strategies contributed to their success and progress through the program.
