Examining the Latent Structure of the Teachers' Sense of Efficacy Scale

Sun, April 19, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside East

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to test the construct validity of Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES) in the context of Pakistan. The participants (N=144) were teachers from Pakistan. Data was analyzed by confirmative factor analysis procedure using maximum likelihood estimation with oblique rotation method. 3-factors solution produced 97% of the variance in 12-items TSES scale. The results indicated that there was significant difference in teachers’ efficacy belief among pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and teacher-trainers, F (2,141) = 9.80, p<.001. Factor loading results indicated that two items were loaded on other factors than hypothesized, two items loaded on dual factors, while one item did not load on any factor. These items require adjustment (rewording/revising) to represent proper construct of scale.
