This study investigated practices around the use of student data for co-planning and co-teaching in inclusive classrooms at high-need, urban schools. Though there have been many studies of co-teaching, few had examined the extent to which co-teachers use data to co-plan, and the extent to which collaborative data use and co-planning are encouraged by their schools. Through surveys and interviews, six co-teaching pairs from a large urban school district were selected for in-depth case studies. Preliminary findings indicate that while general and special educators use data individually, only a small minority of co-teaching pairs co-plan using data to inform their teaching. This has important implications for the design of policy and professional development for general and special educators.
