Abstract

This paper discusses the need for new directions in American Indian educational research. Derived from a qualitative study on the experiences of American Indian middle school students attending mainstream schools, my research challenges the theoretical lenses researchers have historically used when studying American Indian education and calls for more culturally relevant paradigms.
