Cultural Historical Activity Theory and Informal Learning About Organizational Culture at Work: A Case Study of Entry-Level Engineering Researchers in South Korea

Sun, April 19, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside West

Abstract

Employing a descriptive case study approach, the purpose of this research is to illuminate informal learning about organizational culture as experienced by novice engineering researchers in a South Korean electronics company. Since organizational culture impinges on employees’ working conditions and learning, this study is intended to shed light on how employees, especially entry-level workers, in profit organizations accept or resist organizational culture and how learning takes place in the process of their adaptation with or resistance to it.
