The purpose of this paper is to present a new conceptual model of time perspective so that further research may be conducted on how it promotes educational outcomes. Time perspective is a broad cognitive and motivational construct that comprises thoughts and attitudes toward the past, the present, and the future. It is argued that it may be more specifically defined to include the following dimensions, which apply to each time period: meaning is the conceptualization, orientation, the emphasis; relation the relationship; attitude to the feelings, and frequency the intensity. Research is presented describing how these dimensions are measured and extant studies are reviewed showing a positive association between time perspective and academic outcomes. Implications for educational interventions are also discussed.
