Which Effect Size to Report? Meta-Analysis of Effect Size in Single-Case Design

Fri, April 17, 8:15 to 9:45am, Sheraton, Floor: Fourth Level, Chicago VI&VII

Abstract

Single case design (SCD) is a class of research designs to investigate intervention effects based on individual cases. With one participant and serving as its own control, issues regarding appropriate methods for summarizing treatment outcomes for SCD become essential. Effect size measures for single case designs provide information to understand the treatment magnitude in the context of individual intervention. However, no standards have been set up as to which effect size measures are best to report in methodological recommendations. This paper is proposed to compare two single case effect size measures: the regression-based and non-regression approach, and to investigate the most optimal ES with specific designs within the SCD class. Meta-analysis of effect size measures will be used.
