The study examines the intersection of culture, socioeconomic status, and institutional support programs and its influence on Latino students’ high school completion.
Latinos are projected to represent approximately 25% of the workforce in the U.S. by the year 2050; but their rate of dropout is alarming. Data source: 2002-2006 Education Longitudinal Study - National Center for Education Statistics. A binary logistic regression model identified individual characteristics and support programs as predictors of Latino students’ high school completion. The model correctly classified approximately 79% of the observations. It is recommended that schools design targeted support programs in order to enhance Latino students’ completion of high school, especially in areas with high concentration of Latinos in the U.S.
