Abstract: This paper examines dialogue as an innovative research method to explore post-secondary education and career pathways of rural youth. I ask the research question: How can the perspectives shared by rural youth enhance our understanding of the factors that increase opportunities for education and employment in rural communities? Further, how might these options influence rural youth migration from rural to urban areas? I draw on findings from two dialogues conducted with 10 rural youth and adults in a rural community (population less than 1000) in Alberta, Canada, a survey of nearly 200 rural youth from communities throughout the province, and data from 10 interviews with youth and adults. I highlight research methodology and practical applications for rural education and policy.
