This study examines the ways that five high school students with autism who type with support to communicate navigate issues of identity and adolescent experiences through the use of multimodal literacies. A common theme of school experiences was identified and explored by the group, creating an inquiry community around this topic. Particular structures are identified as helpful in facilitating a student-centered inquiry group and encouraging autobiographical representations of life experiences. This work shifts the focus of qualitative methods exploring student experiences to one that is co-constructed by teacher-researchers and student-participants.
