In athletes, a body ideal is often drawn from sport; the body image satisfaction of athletes is most probably a function of the sport environment. Using the NCAA GOALS data (N = 19,848) and a multilevel regression approach, this study explored the association between the athletic achievement profile and the body satisfaction of student-athletes in 609 teams and 24 sports, controlling for gender, ethnicity, and contextual influences of inclusion climate on the team. Findings showed that body image satisfaction was greater for athletes who competed more and at the higher levels of competition. Additionally, differences were found across gender and ethnicity with White women athletes being the least satisfied. Finally, the team inclusion climate was positively associated with body satisfaction.
