High School Ranking in University Admissions at a National Level: Program Theory and Simulation of Predictive Validity Results

Abstract

Alternative university admissions models like the recent consideration of high school ranking by universities in Chile offer the promise of increasing access to higher education without sacrificing predictive validity of college success. This study explore the Theory of Action behind the consideration of this new admissions criterion and its ability to predict students´ persistence in higher education combining both qualitative and quantitative methodology. It is important to study new admissions criteria that aim to consider performance in context of opportunities to learn since they may offer a transparent solution to the problem of equitable access to post-secondary education.
