Predicting Community College and University Student Success: A Test of the Triadic Reciprocal Model for Two Populations

Abstract

This study explores the differential influences that learning strategies, motivational profiles, and academic anxiety appraisals have on learners in two unique learning contexts. The study compares the influence of these variables on learners in a community college and traditional four year university from the same midwestern state. Result illustrate that prior research on predictable factors promoting predictability of student success (i.e., GPA) function as expected for the university population, but the community college learner experience deviates significantly from this standard model.
