This paper analyzes the compatibility of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) with open-mindedness (OM), a fundamental educational aim. I begin by providing an account of why OM is important for educational justice, considering its relationship to both liberal and epistemic justice. Second, I analyze the text of the CCSS and argue that the standards endorse three key elements of the concept of OM. Finally, I consider challenges to education for OM that may arise in implementation of the standards and aligned curricula and assessments. By bringing rigorous philosophical analysis to bear on this current educational policy issue, this paper aims to provide a deeper understanding of the potential role of the CCSS in securing a vital educational aims.
