In this creative account, we explore the possibilities and challenges of using a form arts-based research we term surrealist portraiture (Author, 2012) as a way of making generative meaning out of the “vexingly volatile and constantly changing circumstances” of educational research, and more particularly education research that takes place within the context of un/natural disaster (Bauman, 2007, p.3). The main objective of this presentation/performance/ paper is to introduce surrealist portraiture as a mode of arts-based inquiry and a pedagogical practice of liquid modernity (Bauman, 2007).
