A Longitudinal Analysis of Young Adult Pathways to STEMH Occupations

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the educational pathways of young adults who enter Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Health (STEMH) technician and professional jobs. This emphasis on pathways connects individuals’ demographic characteristics, high school course-taking, and high school academic achievement to their post-secondary patterns of 2-year and 4-year college enrollment and associates and bachelors degree attainment STEMH or non-STEMH fields. Results identify profiles of individuals who obtain employment in STEMH technician and professional occupations, thereby, uncovering student pathways from high school through community college and universities into industry
