The researchers sought to provide educational interventions to teachers and school leaders in order to enhance classroom outcomes for both the students and teaching professionals. The study collected baseline and comparison data from urban schools in the Eastern region of the United States that were classified as priority schools due to their low number scores on an educational index. The primary focus groups included middle level mathematics and science teachers that teach between 6th and 8th grade; as well as, English Language Leaners and inclusion instructors. The interventions used in the study included training and professional development in forms of evaluation, guidance on classroom engagement, and a summer training institute that conforms with the Common Core standards.
