Abstract

In this particular study and paper presentation, the usage of two media texts helps to situate and discuss how an understanding of culturally relevant pedagogy in the educational experiences of African American males can begin to impact hegemonically constructed ideas of learning, schooling, and masculinity. Both The Boondocks animated series and The Wire serve as seminal texts in American and youth media. I specifically reference these two media texts because the narratives provided are tangible examples of culturally relevant pedagogy. Depending on the situational context, these same narratives offered throughout the series can be transferred to other racial and social groups.
