The objective of this study is to provide a voice in the identification of essential teacher dispositions needed in bilingual education to former ELLs who are Hispanic and currently are dual language bilingual education teachers. This study allowed bilingual education teachers an opportunity to identify dispositions that they felt were important and necessary to teach Hispanic English language learners (ELLs). There is limited research addressing the dispositions needed to work with ELLs and none that examines dispositions specifically identified by bilingual teachers who themselves were former ELLs. Participants in this study had from 3 to 17 years of bilingual teaching experience and were in a 90-10 dual language program in a high-risk low SES school.
