The percentage of female engineering faculty (FEF) will continue to increase in the foreseeable future; yet, women will continue to remain severely underrepresented in the engineering disciplines. Recently, the topic of the relatively low proportion of women in academic science and engineering (S&E) has been a subject of worry to many in academe. Current trends reveal that the percentage of female engineering faculty is increasing; yet, males compose 90% of tenured and tenure-track professors. This situation is of concern to the engineering community and others in academe. This qualitative study examines the male-dominated work environments of female engineering faculty using a cultural lens.
