This paper examines the compatibilities and synergies between John Dewey’s understanding of the nature of nature and the ideas and methods of Generalized Systems Theory (GST). The paper uses an analytical approach to explicating Dewey’s understanding of the nature of nature and the ideas and methods of GST, and a synthetic—or, more specifically, a synoptic—perspective in comparing/combining them.
