Intersecting Freire’s (2002) notion of love and using Britzman’s (2003) notion of competing chronologies as a reflective pedagogical tool, I explore the relationship between how ‘love’ in the Freirean sense (2002) and sorrow can be a productive dialectical for the critical teacher educator who have histories of marginalization teaching more privileged graduate students. Attempting to move beyond spaces riddled with shame or guilt and attempting not to reach a blinded vision of all things possible, I contemplate a different kind of productive space where we learn from each other and potentially redeploy problematic discourses that have come to dominate the realities of both teaching in K-12 public schools and in our roles as educators.
