Education scholars, practitioners, and organizations interested in mediating academic and social inequities and improving outcomes for students have increasingly adopted commitments to social justice. However, the field still has a very limited understanding of what teaching practices support a social justice agenda, or how to support teachers to enact social justice goals through practice. This paper presents a conceptual framework for social justice teaching practices that can help researchers identify disciplinary and cross-disciplinary instructional practices that enhance the academic achievement of students traditionally underserved by schools and can be incorporated into the work of teacher education.
