In this pilot study, we examine the use of tablet-based technologies to provide audio-feedback, video-feedback, and traditional written comments on student work in a hybrid graduate-level program. In this study, three instructors randomly assigned students to receive written, audio, or video feedback on a rotating basis throughout the term. At the end of the term, students were asked questions about the cognitive, social, and teaching presence of the three modes and the degree to which they found the various modes of feedback to be intellectually, socially and personally meaningful across the different assignments and over the term. The goal of this study is to determine what, if any, differences exist related to these factors across the 3 feedback approaches.
