This abstract looks at how a whanau supports a child with a rare genetic condition to be schooled and educated. This is an autoethnographic case study based on my son Kyle's life experience and our whanau responses to support his pathways in both formal and informal schooling and education. This was difficult for him because he had a very loving and peaceful existence. School was diagnosed as necessary for his socialisationwith other children at the "Special School." The school psychologists said it was necessary to enable me,his mother to have some time out.Kyle started school at six years old.
