Thu, April 16, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside West

Abstract

Given the increasing trend of Korean-English dual-immersion programs across Southern California, in this study, I seek to investigate Korean-English dual-language programs with a special emphasis on parents in the programs. In doing so, I attempt (1) to delineate the characteristics of parents in the programs, (2) to explore their views about Korean-English dual-language programs, including their enrollment reasons, expectations, and concerns, (3) to examine their experiences in the programs as a parent, (4) to compare differences and similarities in terms of parents’ views on the programs amongst different groups, and (5) to investigate the racial, cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic dynamics amongst parents from various backgrounds.
