Student Voice and School Experiences From Visual Narratives: A Dialogic Construction Among Adolescents, Educators, and Researchers

Abstract

The voice of students is a widespread concept in research, communication projects and inclusive education. With it, participation and involvement of children and youth is highlighted. The uses of images and media production are strategies that are very popular in this line of work. Faced with these proposals, some positions question the concept of voice and the ability to access it. This paper pretends to widen the discussion based on the presentation of a case study of school workshops of visual narratives in adolescents. With an ethnographic and dialogic approach, this research shows how students’ discourse and creations about their school experience are polyphonic, where educators and researchers have an active participation.
