Abstract

This theoretical paper explores the necessity of a new ethical standard in conducting research involving cultural Others. It implores researchers to engage in the use of auto-ethnographic methods as a means of understanding the self within the context of the study, while attempting to utilize inquiry as a method for questioning cultural norms and institutionalized power structures. This paper pays particular attention to the newer field of Public pedagogy as a site where democratic research is possible through an understanding of research becoming rather than knowing and engaging in dialectical research with the communities being studied toward mutually beneficial ends
