Learning and Growing: Trust and School Leadership Response to Crisis

Abstract

This mixed methods study explored the nature of trust and school leaders’ responses in a single case of a PreK-12 school in that went through a crisis one year prior to the site visit for this study. During an annual service learning event two students passed away in a tragic accident. The factors of trust that broke down in the immediate response to the crisis were honesty, openness, and benevolence. Decentralized and collaborative decision making were found to be important factors for rebuilding trust.
