Using Body of Work to Set Standard in Constructed-Response Tests

Abstract

Constructed-response items are expected to provide more information and evaluate higher level cognitive ability than multiple-choice items. Body of Work (BoW) is a widely used standard setting method in constructed-response test. However, the preparation of working profile in BoW is time-consuming. This study compared four variation of BoW: range-finding/pin-pointing/expanded range-finding/ combination of range-finding and pinpointing, with the goal to find the most efficient way to implement BoW. Considering both the statistics soundness and practical issues, expanded range-finding is recommended.
