This study supported by the Consistency Management & Cooperative Discipline project (Freiberg, 2012) consisted of 14,493 elementary and middle school students from one large and two medium sized U.S. school districts as part of a school climate project. The top five concerns of the students making transitions in this study to the next school levels were drugs, academic failure, being sent to the principal, difficult class work, and getting lost in the new school. The results of this study indicate that male students have less transition than female students. Fifth graders express more concerns transitioning to middle school than eighth graders transitioning to high school. These results support similar trends in the literature.
