Placing Ourselves Within a Critical Teacher Education Curriculum

Abstract

This is a story of navigation through complexities of teacher certification, place, race, curriculum, and secondary and post-secondary public education using “place” as curriculum. Beginning in summer 2014, we, a cohort of 13 teacher candidates, a teacher educator, the secondary students we will teach, as well as the community members we encounter, are engaging in self-study aimed at teaching us to critically read, write and teach the world in which we find ourselves (Gruenewald, 2003).
