Abstract

This qualitative, case study examines a parent involvement initiative in Detroit that is designed to empower urban parents by increasing their knowledge and experiences with schools through the use of citywide school visits and evaluations. The purpose of the study is to understand how participation in the program influences parent's future interactions with schools. Specifically, the study examines how participation in the program influences parent's interest, comfort, and confidence in interacting with schools.
